The Inspector's Desk
Looking through the files again, you don't see anything of interest. But towards the end of the stack, you see something that catches your eye. The first name on the file is blotted out with ink, but you can read the last name perfectly. It reads "Javert"....
Welcome to Inspector Javert's Info Page. Here you can find info on the dear inspector, as well as opinions. Enjoy!
So, who IS Inspector Javert Anyway?
Javert is the one of the antagonist (or the guy who is constantly challanging the main character) in  "Les Miserables." He is the unbendable, incorruptable, relentless policeman who chases Jean Valjean throughout the whole story. He was born of a Gypsy woman and convict, and was born inside a jail. He believed that he was never be part of society because of who he was, and so, he broke all bonds of his past and entered the police. At Fourty, he was an Inspector.Totally commited to bringing in the parole-breaking ex-convict, he is assigned to spy at the barricades during a student revolt, is captured,  and is sentenced to die. But he is saved when the man he has persued. Jean Valjean, cuts his binds and tells him to go; much to his astonishment and is told where he can be found. After the fall of the barricades, Javert returns to see if the body of Jean Valjean is there. He finds that Valjean has escaped through the sewers and is met up with him again, only this time, the man is carrying the body of one of the revolutionists. Valjean begs Javert to let him take the young man home and then arrest him. Much to his own suprise, he grants him the last request and even let the ex-con go home to say good-bye to his adopted daughter. Realising that he has failed in his duty and has shown compassion, Javert throws himself into the Seine River.
Why Do I like Javert?
I like Javert because he is such a complicated character, much like Professor Snape in the "Harry Potter" series. We don't know much about his past or about himself. Let's say he's an enigma. When we think that we have figured him out, there's another twist to his personality or past. It makes him an interesting character! I also like his behavior and attitude and the changes he makes in them as the novel progresses. He's obsessive, persistant, and a CONSTANT challenge to Jean Valjean, which makes him a neat character ^_^
FAVORITE JAVERTS!
Here are my Favorite Javerts:

Phiilip Quast
*sighs* he's SO cute in the police uniform and does HE have a GREAT singing voice. WOW!!!!
John Malckovitch
- What can I say, he was wonderful in the 2001 version of Les Mis. I thought he was too calm in the movie, but overall, he was better than some of the Javerts I have seen in movies
Paul Truckey -
He played an understudy Javert in the musical when it came here in 2000, but he played the character so well that I thought I ought to add him to my favorite Javerts
But What IF....??
But what if Javert was stopped from commiting suicide that night? What if the person who saved his life happened to be the one man whom he was trying to escape? What if Victor Hugo lost his famous novel when it was still being written and it was retold by the two men he had come to depict? This is the story behind author Arlene C. Harris' "
Pont-Au-Change" or in English "Bridge of Change." This novel-in-progress is split into six books (two which have already been published and one which will be published towards the end of this year) is the story of what happens to Jean Valjean, Javert, Marius, Cosette, the Thenardier family, and other characters, after the barricades. Book one is called "Resurrections," the second is called "Sanctuary," the third (which will is soon to be published) is called "Adrift," and finally, the fourth book "Honor." What's really interesting is that because she posts her novel on the internet, we get to see it firsthand and we also get to see the changes and revesions that she may do. Overall, as a reader, I believe that this is a Wonderful continuation of "Les Miserables" It has an interesting plot as well as adventure, humor and events that tug at your emotions. It's also one of those books you can't put down once you start reading it! To acess Arlene's website go to Links and press the "Pont-au-Change" link. Can't miss it! And don't forget to read her introduction!
